Closed-loop by default

Lead-acid batteries are the most recycled consumer product in North America. How Raya Energy participates in the closed-loop recycling network, and where the chemistry is going next.

99% recycled — and we mean it

Lead-acid batteries are the most recycled consumer product in North America. The recycling rate hovers above 99% — higher than aluminum cans, higher than paper, higher than glass. The reason is structural: every component (lead, plastic, sulfuric acid) has an established second-life market, and the existing collection network across auto-parts retailers, garages, and recyclers makes turn-in convenient.

Raya Energy participates in this network the same way every other reputable manufacturer does — through warranty exchanges, retailer take-back programs, and direct relationships with smelters who process end-of-life cores into the next generation of batteries.

What gets recycled, where

  • Lead plates and posts: smelted, refined, cast into new battery components. The lead in a new ZITEX battery is, statistically, mostly lead that was in some other battery a few years ago.
  • Polypropylene case: ground, washed, pelletized, and used in new battery cases or other industrial plastic applications.
  • Sulfuric acid electrolyte: neutralized into sodium sulfate (used by detergent and glass manufacturers), or reclaimed for new battery filling.

Where we're going

Lead-acid will remain the dominant automotive starter chemistry for the next decade — the reliability, cold-cranking performance, and recycling infrastructure are too established to displace quickly. But the energy-storage segment is shifting toward lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4), and Raya Energy is preparing its solar / off-grid / RV product line for that transition.

LiFePO4 has its own recycling story that's still maturing — the infrastructure is less established than lead-acid's. Part of Raya Energy's product strategy is to partner with the recyclers building that infrastructure now, so the future installed base has a clear end-of-life path from day one.
